Nicholas Pilapil: Deep Cuts or, the Gay Guy Music Video Night Play (WIP)
Nicholas Pilapil is one of Benson Drive Productions' 2026 Fringe Artists in Residence.
They know every Britney dance break, every Ariana vocal run, and every Carly Rae B-side—but somehow still can’t figure each other out. Deep Cuts is a new comedy about three best friends, one Gay Guy Music Video Night, and the pop divas who raised them. But when secret hookups, buried feelings, and years of unresolved bullsh*t crash the function, the playlist starts getting personal. A coming-of-middle-age comedy about friendship, desire, and scraping by in your thirties while still having absolutely no idea what the f*ck you’re doing.
Nicholas Pilapil is one of Benson Drive Productions' 2026 Fringe Artists in Residence. This commissioned work-in-progress showing marks his Edinburgh Festival Fringe debut.
Nicholas Pilapil is a Filipino American playwright. His plays include "God Will Do The Rest" (Artists at Play & Latino Theater Company), "The Bottoming Process" (IAMA Theatre Company, Victory Gardens Ignition Festival of New Plays), and "Luca & Uri" (Playwrights' Arena & Victory Theatre Center). His work has been developed with Geffen Playhouse, Theater Mu, Boston Court Pasadena, Ensemble Studio Theatre/LA, CIRCA Pintig, Theatre Rhinoceros, and The Workshop Theater, among others. Nicholas is a winner of the Samuel French Off Off Broadway Festival and an alum of The Writers’ Room at the Geffen Playhouse, IAMA Theatre Company’s Emerging Playwrights Lab, and artEquity.
